Thanksgiving Dinner: Impressing Grandma & Grandpa with Martha & Marley Spoon

Last Thanksgiving my parents decided they couldn’t host.  On top of that, my husband was on-duty, which meant that if there was going to be a turkey, I would have to be cooking.  If that wasn’t scary enough, I would actually have to go out and shop for food.  This was more than a few frozen bags of veggies and some poultry.  We’re talking turkey, dressing, vegetables, dessert.  I was panicked.  Then a miracle happened.  Martha & Marley Spoon emailed me.

Thanksgiving Challenge

I wish I could say I had mad hostess skills and that by my 40th year on this planet that I had successfully prepared a full Thanksgiving dinner.  No one in my family was silly enough to suggest I tackle such a feat. I’ve hosted Easter dinner, plan yearly holiday family pot-luck gatherings and been known to throw together surprise birthday parties – but I have never even considered a Thanksgiving feast.

When Martha Stewart & Marley Spoon emailed me, it answered all my needs.  Free range turkey.  Four side dishes.  Plus dessert.  Enough to feed 8-10 people.  The best part – INSTRUCTIONS.  The answer to all my worries – step by step instructions.  We’re not just talking recipe instructions – I’m talking prep work the day before, a timeline of when to do what and how to budget your time to get your meal on the table with everything perfect AT THE SAME TIME.  Seriously, Martha knows what she is doing.

Menu for the Day

When your two boxes arrive at your doorstep – one for the turkey, one for all the ingredients – you will have everything you will need for your meal.  Aside from some salt, pepper, olive oil and neutral oil – everything will be in the box in perfect quantity.  Apples to peel for dessert.  A loaf of bread to cube, then toast before making the stuffing.  Seasonings. Potatoes to cut.  Vegetables to chop.  Turkey to roast.   This is what you will be serving your guests:

  • Brown Sugar Glazed Turkey and Gravy
  • Classic Herbed Stuffing with Dried Cherries
  • Roasted Root Vegetables with Brown Butter, Sage and Almonds
  • Green Beans with Fried Shallots and Lemon
  • Big Martha’s Mashed Potatoes
  • Spiced Apple Oat Crisp

Technically, at the time of this post, you have two days left to order your Thanksgiving Feast.  Orders are due 11/14/18 at noon.  They provide you with everything you need to make Martha’s fail-safe Thanksgiving dinner, delivered directly to your door.  The Complete Feast includes the turkey, four sides & a dessert for $159.99.  This price includes the delivery cost!  That’s it!  The box can be purchased alongside your regular Martha & Marley Spoon box, or as a one-off with no subscription. You are not on the hook to order anything again.  I would, however, highly recommend treating yourself to a regular dinner box in the near future – it makes dinner time grand during the busy holiday season!

The results were perfect!  Turkey was done at just the right time, the side dishes were ready and the apple crisp was perfect for dessert.  We did add our own pumpkin pie and a few other traditional family side dishes – but we fed 8 people and had leftovers for the next day.  Success!

Don’t delay – you will not regret having your Thanksgiving meal delivered to your doorstep next week.  You’ll be able to sit back and relish the fact you will not be fighting the grocery store crowds, hoping you don’t forget anything.  You will also enjoy what has been the best stuffing a girl could ever claim to make from scratch.  Thank you, Martha.  Looking forward to another great cooking adventure!
